The only sure way to avoid a hangover is to avoid drinking too much. That said, there are things you can do to remedy a hangover or make it less gruesome. Personally, I try to never overindulge but sometimes you can just be a little off the limit. Here is what helps me feel great again 😉
Fresh sugarcane juice gives you a nice energy boost and has many minerals that were depleted from your body during that drinking spree. It is hydrating too which brings me to my next point.
You have to keep hydrated even before you start the party. Alcohol, as you know, makes you very dehydrated so you need to drink a lot of water before and after even during the drinking session. It is nice to drink a nice healthy cocktail, then follow it with some water and so on. Laso having some citrus (lemon/lime/orange) with water and alcohol helps to prevent a hangover and you don’t get too drunk.
Carry a water bottle and take a walk in the neighbourhood or head to the gym for the treadmill. Just light, moderate intensity workouts should help in getting those endorphins (feel-good hormones).
You know this, never drink on an empty stomach and I am not talking about nyama choma. You want a lot of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain, beans or meat. Eating the regular junk sold in bars in not going to help that much. If you can get some bone broth that is even perfect, it really helps with a hangover.
At the end of the day, if you take too much alcohol, your body will struggle to get rid of it and hence the hangover. Scientists recommend that the maximum intake of liquor should be like 14 shots (30 ml) of rum per week. Maybe spaced out over three days. People are different but the mantra is just to take everything in moderation, including moderation.
